Project Overview

Infraplus Consulting was selected by the Gambia Inclusive and Resilience Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV) to provide comprehensive consulting services for the development of a full-scale Agro Logistic Centre (ALC) in Maka Farafenni, The Gambia. This strategic engagement, spanning 20 months, aims to support the country’s agricultural modernization drive by enabling advanced logistics infrastructure for key crop value chains.

The Maka Farafenni Agro Logistic Centre is envisioned as a transformative project designed to strengthen the farm-to-market ecosystem, minimize post-harvest losses, and boost value addition for agricultural produce in the region. Through a combination of technical excellence, stakeholder engagement, and climate-sensitive planning, Infraplus is contributing to a facility that will improve agricultural resilience, market access, and supply chain efficiency in The Gambia.

Scope of Work

Phase 1: Market Feasibility & Schematic Design

Conducted an in-depth market research study focused on identifying priority commodities and supply chain bottlenecks in and around Maka Farafenni.
Developed a detailed Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) integrating insights from government stakeholders, farmers, cooperatives, and private sector partners.
Designed the initial schematic layout of the facility, considering infrastructure access, spatial zoning, utility provisions, and agri-processing linkages.
Delivered Preliminary Environmental and Social Assessments (ESA) to gauge early-stage risks and compliance requirements.
Provided a preliminary management strategy and business model tailored to the logistics needs of the Gambia's agricultural sector.

Phase 2: Development Design & Engineering

Created a comprehensive development design package as per Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) standards, ensuring the facility’s readiness for procurement and construction.
Formulated site-specific Environmental & Social Management Plans (ESMPs) in line with World Bank environmental safeguards.
Delivered detailed engineering designs, including:
- Master layout and architectural plans
- Structural frameworks for warehouse, admin building, cold storage & utilities
- MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
- Electrical and water distribution networks
- Road access, stormwater drainage & landscaping
Conducted financial modeling and cost estimation including CAPEX, OPEX, and lifecycle analysis.
Provided transaction advisory support including the development of bidding documents, EPC tender frameworks, and technical qualification criteria.
Supported the building permit approval process through documentation and coordination with local authorities.
